Slovenian Society of Toxicology is pleased to invite you to a lecture by Prof. Dr. Gregor Majdič titled New method of adult stem cell therapy in dogs, which will take place at Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ljubljana, lecture room P2 on 16th May, 2011 at 5 pm.

Stem cells are cells that possess capability to develop into different cells. Stem cells could be divided into embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells. Embryonic stem cells have broader potency to develop into different tissues in comparison to adult stem cells. However, adult stem cells are present in many tissues in adult organism and are thus easier to obtain and therefore potentially interesting for cell therapy. We have recently developed a new method of adult stem cell therapy in dogs for treatment of orthopedic conditions such as arthritis and dysplasia. Small piece of adipose tissue is collected from the back region in the shoulder area and stem cells are expanded in cell culture. Expanded cells are then used for autologous transplantation directly into joints of affected dogs. In the lecture, basic information about stem cells together with clinical use of stem cells in dogs will be presented.

Slovensko toksikološko društvo vljudno vabi na predavanje prof. dr. Gregorja Majdiča, z naslovom Nova tehnika zdravljenja z matičnimi celicami. Predavanje bo 16. 5. 2011, ob 17. uri, na Fakulteti za farmacijo, Univerze v Ljubljani, v predavalnici P2.

Matične celice so celice, ki so se sposobne razviti v različne telesne celice. Delimo jih na odrasle in embrionalne matične celice. Embrionalne matične celice imajo večjo možnost razvoja v različna tkiva, odrasle matične celice, ki se nahajajo v različnih tkivih, pa so lažje dostopne in zato potencialno zanimive za uporabo pri celičnem zdravljenju. V naši raziskovalni skupini smo razvili metodo zdravljenja z matičnimi celicami pri psih. Pri tej metodi odvzamemo psu s sklepnimi boleznimi (artritisi, displazije) košček maščobnega tkiva, v katerem se nahaja veliko mezenhimskih matičnih celic, in celice namnožimo v laboratorijskih pogojih. Namnožene nespremenjene celice nato uporabimo za avtologno presaditev pri pasjih bolnikih. V predavanju bodo predstavljene osnovne informacije o matičnih celicah in informacije o novi metodi zdravljenja sklepnih obolenj pri psih, ki so jo razvili raziskovalci na Veterinarski fakulteti v Ljubljani.

30. aprila 2011 se je v Evropski uniji končalo sedemletno prehodno obdobje za tradicionalna zdravila rastlinskega izvora, ki so bila v času uveljavitve Direktive 2004/24/ES o tradicionalnih zdravilih rastlinskega izvora, to je 30. aprila 2004, zakonito na trgu. Do tega datuma se bodo morala ta zdravila uskladiti z določbami te direktive. Postopki za pridobitev dovoljenja za promet s tradicionalnimi zdravili oziroma registracijo so bistveno enostavnejši kot za druga zdravila, kajti zanje ni treba predložiti podatkov o kliničnem preskušanju.
